You might be surprised, but the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia offer high elevations, lots of snow (both natural and man-made), and plenty of skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing!

Skiing in North Carolina
Out of all the areas in the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina offers the most, and best, options for skiing in the Blue Ridge. With more than 11 resorts to choose from, all through Western NC, you'll have plenty of options.
Appalachian Ski Mountain
Appalachian Ski Mountain is located south of Boone NC. The resort offers 12 slopes. Slopes are served by one double chair lift, two quad charlifts, two conveyor lifts, and one handle pull lift. There is also an Terrain Park for snowboarding.
The resort also offers a ski shop, ice-skating rink, late night skiing, and a number of special events.
The resort has 4 onsite chalets for rent, and a numerous other lodging options are available nearby in Boone and Blowing Rock NC.
Beech Mountain
Beech Mountain Ski Resort is located just north of Banner Elk, NC and is also the home of the Land of Oz. "Ski Beech" as it is commonly called, provides 15 different trails and a terrain park. They provide three double chairlifts, three quad chairlifts, and a conveyor lift called "The Magic Carpet".
The resort additionally offers an Alpine village (with Brewery), mountain top skybar, ice skating and tubing.

Cataloochee Ski Area
Nestled in the upper elevations of Maggie Valley North Carolina, Cataloochee Valley Ski Area provides 17 trails and a summit height of 5,400 feet. They have 1 quadlift, 1 triple charlift, 1 double chairlift, and 2 surface lifts. A terrain park is also available.
A Ski Shop, and restaurant are a available at the base of the slopes.
There is no on resort lodging, but plenty of lodging and cabin options are available around Cataloochee Ski Area, and in the nearby town of Maggie Valley NC.
Cataloochee Ski Area also offers snowing tubing, at Tube World in Maggie Valley.
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is North Carolina's largest ski area and is located near Banner Elk, NC.
Sugar Mountain offers 21 different ski trails (15 at night), and a summit elevation of 5,300 feet. They have a total of 8 lifts, 1 high speed six passenger, 1 triple chairlift, 4 double chairlifts, and 2 surface lifts. They also have a large terrain park.
The resort offers a lounge, restaurant, ski shop, and both on site and off site lodging and accomodations. They additionally have snow tubing and a large ice skating rink as well.
Night skiing, special events, competitive skiing, and lessons are all available.
Sapphire Valley
Sapphire Valley Ski Resort is small family oriented ski resort, located in the foothills, outside of Cashiers, NC.
The resort offers two trails and 1 quad chairlift. Snow tubing is also available at the resort.
There is a restaurant at the base of the slopes, but no on resort lodging is availble. Loding is available nearby.
Wolf Ridge Ski Resort
Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is located just north of Asheville NC in the Mars Hill Community. "The Wolf" offers 14 different trails from beginniner to expert level. Guests are taken to the top of the slopes at 4,700 foot elevation by 4 lifts, 1 quad charlift, 1 double chairlife, and 2 moving carpet lifts. Day and night skiing is available.
At the base of the slopes, the lodge provides a cafeteria, gift shop, and rental shop. Lodging is available around the resort, and can be booked along side your ski passes.
Snow tubing is available just a short distance from the resort.
Skiing in Tennessee
One of the most popular Blue Ridge Mountain Ski Resorts, and the only ski resort in the Great Smoky Mountains is located in Tennessee, at Ober Gatlinburg.
Ober Gatlinburg
Ober Gatlinburg is a ski resort and amusement park, located in Gatlinburg TN, that provides 556 vertical rise for skiing. The resort provides 10 trails, from beginner to expert, and 10 lifts. They have: 2 Quad Lifts, 1 Double Life, and 1 Handle tow
The resort also offers: Snow tubing, ice skating, and a terrain park for snow boarding. Shopping and restaurant venues are also availble, including a ski shop for rentals.

Skiing in Virgina
Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains are home to 4 different snow ski resorts. They all provide beautiful and exciting high elevation skiing, fantastic views, snow tubing, and other winter activities.
Bryce Mountain Resort
Located in Basye, Virginia, and less than 2 miles from Washington DC, Bryce Mountain Resort provides 8 different lift assisted trails, snow tubing, Retaurant & Bar. The resort has 1 quadchair lift, 1 double lift, and 5 carpet assist lifts. Summit elevations is 1750feet, and the base elevation is 1250.
Lodging is available nearby and off the resort itself. Snow tubing is available along side the trails and on the resort.
Massanutten Resort is located in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, and features 1,110 feet of vertical skiing. The resort has 14 trails, from beginner to expert level. There are 7 lifts, 1 triple chair, 3 quad chair, 1 J Bar (on the terrain park), and 2 conveyor lifts. Both daytime and night skiing is available.
The resort offers lodging (hotels and cabins), a full service spa, multiple restaurants, a ski lodge, ice skating rink, snow tubing and an indoor waterpark.
The Omni Homestead Resort provides a 700 feet of vertical skiing with 10 trails for beginners to experts. There are two lifts provided and there is a Terrain Park. The ski resort is ideal for beginners.

Wintergreen Resort
Wintergreen Resort offers a premium ski experience in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, near Charlottesville. The resort provides 25 trails from beginner to expert. Lifts to the top, at 3,500 foot in elevation, are provided by 5 different chairlifts: 1 quad, 2 triple, and 1 double.
The resort also has lodging, premium restaurants, ski shop, a terrain park, snow tubing, and even a full service Spa. Both day and night skiing are available.
