History of Marion, NC

Historic Marion, NC County Courthouse.  The building is between two large trees and made out of brown brick and stone.  There are large windows on the front, with a concrete walkway to the main entrance.

Founded in 1844, Marion was named after the Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion, known as the "Swamp Fox."

This historic town has deep roots in North Carolina’s past and proudly preserves its heritage through beautifully restored buildings, museums, and a thriving downtown district.

Marion is the county seat of McDowell County and played a significant role in the early days of Appalachian settlement and industry.
