But they are also well known for Fraser Furs, the most popular Christmas trees. Turns out, these mountains provide for optimal growing conditions for them, and there are a number of Christmas Tree farms all across the Blue Ridge Mountains.
There are a number of these "Choose n' Cut" Christmas Tree Farms within a short drive of Asheville NC. In addition to getting your Christmas tree, you can also get wreaths and other decorations as well. All of these farms will cut the tree for you, bail it, and assist you with loading it in or on your vehicle.
Prices for trees are by the foot and vary depending on the farm, location, and ammenities provided by the farm. Many also have hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot apple cider available for visitors.

Boyd's Christmas Tree Farm Waynesville NC
One of the largest and most well known Christmas Tree Farms near Asheville NC, and in Western NC is Boyd's Christmas Tree Farm, just outside of Maggie Valley NC. Boyd's has been providing Christmas trees to families for over 100 years,.
When visiting Boyd's, you can choose from pre-cut trees or walk through the farm and choose your own. The Boyd's staff will cut it, bundle it, and tie it to your vehicle. You can even cut it yourself if you want, using a Bow Saw.
While visiting Boyd's, you can enjoy some hot chocolate or cider and browse and purchase decorations, wreaths and other gifts. You can even see Santa! Boyd's provides paved parking, restrooms, and handicap facilities.
Your dogs are also welcome on the farm but must be on a leash.
Mehaffey Tree Farm Waynesville NC
Mehaffey Tree Farm is located near Maggie Valley NC, and has been family owned and operated since 1984. The Farm is where we have personally gotten our trees each year for the past 14 years. They are our friends, and neighbors (see our video from a past visit).
The Mehaffey famly opens their farm to families for Choose & Cut each year in November through December. They take pride in growing their trees and providing the highest quality trees for their customers.
When you visit, you can browse their manicured farm and fields to select your own tree. The farm and surrounding scenery area gorgeous. The Mehaffey's and their staff are super friendly and helpful.
While there, enjoy some hot cider and hot chocolate, while picking out your tree, or waiting for it to be loaded on your vehicle. They are also dog friendly, but pets must be on a leash.
Smoky Mountain Tree Farm Waynesville NC
Smoky Mountain Christmas Tree farm is a family owned and working farm, located in the beautiful mountains near Maggie Valley and Waynesville NC. The farm is located within 30 minutes of Asheville NC.
Smoky Mountain Christmas Tree farm sells Fraser Fir in all sizes. They also sell wreaths, garland, and pre-cut trees for the Christmas Season as well.
The farm is Choose and Cut, meaning you can enjoy browsing the fields to find the perfect tree to bring home, and the Smoky Mountain Christmas Tree farm will cut it, bale it, and tie it to your vehicle for transport.
The farm is easily recognizable by it's signature red "7-Up Barn", that has been featured in many photos, including our own above.
Sandy Hollar Tree Farm Leicester, NC
Sandy Hollar Tree Farm is located Leicester, NC (pronounced Les-ter by locals), about 20 minutes outside of Asheville NC. This family Farm opened in 1969, and they provide Choose & Cut Christmas trees. At Christmas time they have hayrides around the farm, fresh wreaths and garlands in their Christmas shop. They also sell a number of handcrafted items such as: handmade Christmas tree ornaments, hand spun, knitted or crocheted toboggans, shawls and afghans as well as quilts along with many more unique gifts.
The Snack Shake provides various snacks, drinks, and complimentary hot chocolate.
As you go travel back a mile into the farm's trees, you will pass a variety of the livestock that live on the farm such as sheep, goats, llamas, miniature donkeys and longhorn cattle. Once you have picked out your tree, you may cut it yourself (we have hand saws available) or you may get one of the staff to cut it for you.
They will then bale it, measure it and place a tag on the tree with your name and the height of the tree. It is now time to come back to the starting point. Your tree will be brought down and you will find it at the drop off point.
